Amelia the spider
written by Saray Gomez

Amelia was a curious, but nice spider. She enjoyed doing webs, and being polite to each and every animal that lived in the jungle. She also enjoyed spring time, Where her silk webs were filled with humid droplets of water.

One day, Amelia was watching for bugs like flies and things that flied, when all of a sudden she saw a group of birds, having fun with their colorful, feathered wings, which moved with the wind that their friend Mrs. Blow was blowing. The wind went back and forth and side to side. Amelia thought “I wish I was like a bird, I wish I could be able to fly” and for 2 weeks she prayed and prayed, but nothing happened. And since nothing happened she came up with a plan.

The next morning she climbed up the bird mountain to ask the birds how they got their wings and their feathers. When she finally was done climbing the mountain she gave out a speech in a loud, loud, loud voice “dear feather friends, if you want to win a prize, you should listen to me” she said and all of a sudden, all types of birds appeared from the nowhere. Then Amelia took out the golden fair she had stolen from the big head bird master but the birds didn't know “if you want this gold feather necklace that I bought from the big head bird you will need to give me your feathered wings as an exchange” she kept going . Everybody raised their hand, but it wasn’t enough for Amelia, she didn't only want the feathers, but she needed the prettiest feathers of all those who were interested. She stood in a selective way for two minutes thinking about what she would choose. Finally she choose a bird whose wings were like a peacock’s and shined liked the sunlight in the sun and still glittered in the moonlight when it was dark. So she handed out the feathered necklace and gave it the bird and the bird gave its wings to Amelia. She put them on and started to fly, fly, fly up, up, up into the sky. But after that she discovered that the feathers were fake, just like the necklace she gave the bird. And guess what happened? She fell down, down, down and she never got to fly again.
